Cavendish Wells Cannon

Born 1 Feb. 1895 in Salt Lake City.1 Son of John Quayle Cannon and Elizabeth Ann Wells.2 Grandson of EBW.3 Earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Utah, 1916.4 Worked as an instructor at South Cache High School.5 Worked as a field secretary for the Lynch Cannon Engineering Company.6 Enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1918.7 Earned a diploma from the University of Paris while serving in France as a marine, 1919.8 Served as an interpreter during his overseas service.9 Married Maria Lucia Ottillie Horsetsky von Hornthal, by 27 Feb. 1922, in Vienna, Austria.10 Served as a legation clerk for the American delegation in Vienna, 1922.11 Served as the U.S. ambassador to Yugoslavia, 10 Apr. 1947–19 Oct. 1949.12 Served as envoy and minister to Syria, 20 Sept. 1950–8 May 1852.13 Served as the U.S. ambassador to Portugal, 13 Mar. 1952–1 Aug. 1953.14 Served as the U.S. ambassador to Greece, 28 July 1953–28 July 1956.15 Served as the U.S. ambassador to Morocco, 21 July 1956–1 July 1958.16 Died 7 Oct. 1962 in San Pablo, Seville, Spain.17
