Robert Crichton Wyllie

1798– 1865

Born in Hazelbank, Ayrshire, Scotland; was ship’s doctor at sea before becoming merchant in South America and Mexico; left successful London business for Hawai‘i in 1843 in company with friend William Miller, who had been appointed British consul general in Honolulu; became Hawaiian Islands minister of foreign affairs in 1845, a position he held at time of death.
