William Spry

11 January 1864–18 April 1929

William Spry was born to Philip Spry and Sara Townsend on 11 January 1864 in Windsor, England. He migrated with his family to Utah Territory in 1875 and married Mary Ann Wrathall in 1890. Spry was a railroad worker and rancher and served as a tax collector for Tooele County, Utah Territory, in 1894. He was elected to the Utah State Legislature in 1903 and 1905 from Tooele. Spry was then elected governor of Utah in 1908, serving until 1916. He died on 19 April 1929 in Washington DC.[1]
