William S. Marks

11 January 1866–23 February 1940

William Sherman Marks was born to George Snyder Marks and Mary Ann Long on 11 January 1866 in Milton, Illinois. He moved from Milton to Salt Lake City, Utah Territory, in 1892, and from Salt Lake City to Tooele in 1894. On 28 February 1896, he married Rosa May Rudy in Salt Lake City. He worked in a number of educational capacities: as a schoolteacher, Tooele County school superintendent, a member of the state board of education, and president of the Tooele County school board. Marks also served two terms as Tooele county attorney and six years as Tooele city attorney before being elected a judge in the Third Judicial District in 1924. He died on 23 February 1940 in Bakersfield, California.[1]
