James Stirling Dunn

12 July 1837–6 January 1923

James Stirling Dunn was born on 12 July 1837 to John Dunn and Jean Stirling in Kirkintilloch, Scotland. After coming to the United States in 1857, he settled in Willard, Utah Territory. He married Mary Madden on 17 March 1863 and later married Jean Fraser and Jessie Young. He was the editor of the Tooele Transcript and served as a city councilor from 1877 to 1879 and 1885 to 1887. He was also the first president of the teacher’s quorum in Tooele, Utah Territory, organized in 1877, and was assistant to Sunday School superintendent Thomas Atkin Jr. from 1879 to 1882. He died on 6 January 1923 in Tooele.[1]
