George Quayle Cannon

George Quayle Cannon was born on 11 January 1827 in Liverpool, England, the son of George Cannon and Ann Quayle. He immigrated with his family to the United States in 1842 and came to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. Cannon served a mission to Hawaii for four years from 1850 to 1854 and was editor of the Deseret News for several years. He became a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1860 and was the owner and publisher of the church periodical Juvenile Instructor. He served four terms as a territorial delegate to Congress beginning in 1872. Cannon became a member of the First Presidency in 1873 and died on 12 April 1901 in Monterey, California.[1]
