Edwin Broad was born on 20 November 1837 in Briston, Norfolk, England, and moved to Utah Territory in the 1850s. He married Elizabeth Broad. He worked as a carpenter and also had a sawmill in Tooele, Utah Territory, which burned to the ground in 1880. He then moved the mill to Skull Valley, Utah Territory. Broad died on 5 November 1901 and was buried in Tooele.
