The Church Historian’s Press Made Multilingual
The Church Historian’s Press offers selected free content in Spanish, Portuguese, and other languages.
Joseph Smith Papers podcasts, First Vision accounts, and other translated content helps the press reach more scholars and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world, supporting the press’s mission to become a premier resource for studying Latter-day Saint history.
As of 2025, the five published series of the Joseph Smith Papers Podcast have been made available in Spanish and Portuguese on the JSP website, completing a yearslong process. For the translations, Spanish and Portuguese voice actors aimed to match the tone and timbre of the English-speaking guests and host, creating a faithful portrayal for listeners.
Spencer McBride, host of the podcast, explained: “The podcasts help the average person understand the insights of the Joseph Smith Papers, which were published only in English and aimed primarily at scholars. By translating the podcast, we make insights from the Joseph Smith Papers accessible to more people around the world.”
For several years, the JSP website has also hosted First Vision accounts translated into Portuguese and Spanish, as well as Cebuano, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, French, Dutch, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Samoan, Tagalog, and Māori. On the CHP website, visitors can access Spanish and Portuguese translations of the 2017 publication At the Pulpit, which features sermons by Latter-day Saint women throughout the church’s history.
The translated podcasts, First Vision accounts, and At the Pulpit content are also available in the church’s Gospel Library app.
