Nancy Rigdon Ellis

1 Born at Pittsburgh; daughter of Phebe Brooks and Sidney Rigdon. 2 Baptized in Ohio, circa 1830. Lived at Kirtland, Geauga County, Ohio, 1831; at Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, 1836; at Kirtland, 1837; at Far West, Caldwell County, Missouri, 1838; and at Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock County, Illinois, 1839. 3 Joined the Female Relief Society of Nauvoo at its first meeting, March 17, 1842. 4 Reportedly rejected a proposal from Joseph Smith during the summer of 1842, leading to public controversy involving Smith, the Rigdon family, and John C. Bennett. 5 Moved to Pittsburgh, 1844. 6 Married Robert Ellis, 1846; nine children. 7 Died at Pittsburgh. 8 (See Document 1.2)
