1 Born at Carbunca, Pottawattamie County, Iowa; son of Sarah Ann Libby and George Albert Smith. 2 Migrated to the Salt Lake Valley, 1849. 3 Baptized, 1856. 4 Married Sarah Farr, 1866; participated in plural marriage. 5 Lived at Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah County, Utah Territory. 6 Appointed counselor in the Provo Fourth Ward bishopric, 1867. 7 Served a mission to Europe, 1874–1875. 8 Appointed bishop of the Salt Lake City Seventeenth Ward, 1875. 9 Ordained to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles by Wilford Woodruff, 1880. 10 Presided over the European mission, 1882–1884. 11 Appointed second counselor to Joseph Fielding Smith in the First Presidency, 1910. 12 Died at Salt Lake City. 13 (See Document 4.3, 4.17, 4.28)
