Ezra Taft Benson

February 22, 1811–September 3, 1869

1 Born at Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts; son of Chloe Taft and John Benson. 2 Baptized, July 19, 1840, at Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. Served several missions to the eastern United States. Presided over a church conference at Boston, 1844–1845. Ordained to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, July 1846. Migrated to the Salt Lake Valley with the Brigham Young pioneer company, 1847. Presided over the British mission, 1856–1857. Settled in Cache County, Utah Territory, 1857. Served a mission to the Sandwich Islands, 1864. Member of the legislature for the provisional State of Deseret; member of the Utah Territorial House of Representatives for several sessions; elected to the Utah Territorial Council for ten years. 3 Died at Ogden, Weber County, Utah Territory; buried at Logan, Cache County. 4 (See Document 1.12)
