Four Additional Volumes Released of the Journal of Apostle George F. Richards
The Church Historian’s Press today announced the online publication of four additional volumes of the journal of George F. Richards, who served as an apostle in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1906 to 1950.
The newly released volumes date from April 1900 to September 1907 and include entries detailing Richards’s continuing service in the Tooele Stake presidency and as stake patriarch; his work as a farmer in Tooele County, Utah, and his ownership of a lumber and farm implement business there; and his participation in a trip to the eastern United States in December 1905 with President Joseph F. Smith and other church dignitaries. This trip was taken to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Joseph Smith and to dedicate a monument to him in Royalton, Vermont. Richards kept a detailed account of the journey in his journal. In addition, the volumes contain Richards’s observations on his calling to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in April 1906 and recount the beginning of his service in that quorum.
