William Hyde

1818– 1874

Born in York, New York; baptized in 1834; served four missions in eastern U.S., 1839–43; joined Mormon Battalion in 1846; reunited with his family at Winter Quarters, Nebraska, in December 1847; immigrated to Salt Lake Valley in 1849; called on mission to Australia in 1852; led company of sixty-three Australian Saints to Utah in 1854, their vessel stopping in Hawai‘i while en route; lived in Salt Lake City and Lehi, Utah; moved to Cache Valley in 1864; helped settle Hyde Park, where he died.
