Born in Downington, Pennsylvania; baptized along with wife, Hannah, in Pennsylvania in 1833; sailed to California on the Brooklyn with his wife and four children in 1846; operated tailor shop in San Francisco with his wife and children; died in San Francisco from injuries suffered in a riding accident.
