Orson Hyde

Born in Oxford, Connecticut; Campbellite preacher in Kirtland, Ohio, before being baptized in 1831; ordained an apostle in 1835; served seven missions prior to 1847, including two to England and another to dedicate Palestine as a gathering place for the Jews; helped preside over the Saints around Kanesville, Iowa, 1847–52; immigrated to Utah in 1852; led companies of Latter-day Saints to settle Fort Supply in present-day Wyoming and Carson Valley in present-day Nevada; moved to Sanpete County, Utah, in 1860; eventually settled in Spring City, where he died.
