Brother-in-law of Jonathan Napela and father of David Kaauwai-Kahalekulu; appointed to replace Napela as judge before July 1851; pillar in the Reverend Daniel Conde’s church at Wailuku, Maui; outspoken critic of Latter-day Saints; led intense effort in December 1853 to turn Latter-day Saints in eastern Maui from their religion; likely started rumor that Napela had left the Church.
