Mataio Kekuanaoa

1794 — 1868

Descended on his father’s side from chiefs and on his mother’s side from a family that attended Kamehameha I; accompanied the future Kamehameha II to England in 1823; married Kinau, daughter of Kamehameha I, in 1827; fathered six children; following death of his wife in 1839, served as governor of O‘ahu; member of Privy Council and House of Nobles; two of his sons, Alexander Liholiho and Lot Kapuaiwa, became kings of Hawai‘i.
