Maria Ogden

1792 — 1874

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; sailed to Hawai‘i in 1827 as member of third company of missionaries sent by ABCFM; initially stationed at Waimea, Kaua‘i; labored in Lahaina, Maui, teaching school during the week and a Sunday school, 1829–38; taught at Wailuku Female Seminary in central Maui, 1838–58; went to O‘ahu to work at Punahou School, a boarding school for children of foreign missionaries, in 1858; served as founding principal of Makiki Female Seminary, 1859–68; died in Honolulu, O‘ahu.
