Lorenzo Snow

Born at Mantua, Portage County, Ohio. Baptized in 1836 in Kirtland. Served a mission to England from 1840 to 1843. Returned to Nauvoo. Emigrated to the Great Salt Lake Valley in 1848. Ordained an apostle in February 1849. Called to open missionary work in Italy in 1849; arrived in Genoa in 1850. Released from missionary service while laboring in Malta in 1852. Elected a member of Utah territorial legislature in 1852. Called by Brigham Young to move to Box Elder County with fifty families in 1853. Lived in Brigham City, Utah, for forty years. Served as stake president and helped organize many industries in that area. Served a mission to the Sandwich Islands in 1864. Visited Palestine in 1873. Imprisoned in 1886 for practicing polygamy. Released from prison in 1887. Became president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1889 and president of the Church in 1898. (Eliza R.
