Jonathan Smith Green

1796– 1878

Born in Lebanon, Connecticut; graduated from Andover Theological Seminary in 1827; sailed that same year to Hawai‘i with wife Theodotia in third company of missionaries sent by ABCFM; briefly stationed at Lahaina, Maui, and Hilo, Hawai‘i, before moving to Wailuku, Maui, in 1832; served as founding principal of the Wailuku Girls’ Seminary, 1836–42; left ABCFM service in 1842 because of the organization’s tie to American slaveholders; became pastor at Makawao, Maui, affiliated with American Missionary Association; died at Makawao.
