John (Keoni Ana) Young

1810– 1857

Half-brother of James Young Kanehoa; born in Kawaihae, Hawai‘i; his father was a British sailor captured by the Hawaiians in 1790 before becoming an adviser to Kamehameha I regarding haole ways; served as Hawai‘i’s first minister of the interior (kuhina-nui), 1845–1855; served as chamberlain of king’s household and supreme court justice.
