Jefferson Hunt

1803 — 1879

Born in Bracken County, Kentucky; moved to Illinois, where he was baptized in 1834; joined Mormon Battalion in 1846; traveled from California to Salt Lake Valley via northern route in 1847; later that year returned to California by southern route to obtain provisions for Salt Lake’s residents; led wagon train of emigrants to California via southern route in 1849, accompanied partway by GQC bound for the gold fields; returned to Utah in early 1851; later that year helped settle San Bernardino, California; returned to Utah because of 1857–58 Utah War; settled in Ogden Valley, where town of Huntsville is named for him; moved to Oxford, Idaho, where he died.
