Haole resident of O‘ahu when ship Brooklyn stopped at Honolulu in June 1846; fell in love with one of the company, Mary Addison; subsequently sailed on Brooklyn to Yerba Buena (later San Francisco), California, where they married; brought lawsuit on behalf of other Brooklyn passengers against Sam Brannan for misappropriating funds; returned to Hawai‘i when suit failed; operated a store with his wife in Honolulu in December 1850; planned to return to California in August 1852.
