Son of Francis and Mary Jane Hammond, born in South Cottonwood, Utah; went with his parents to Hawai‘i in 1851; remained in the islands until 1856; lived with his family in San Bernardino, California, and Ogden and Huntsville, Utah; died unexpectedly in Sunset, Arizona, while on mission to establish Latter-day Saint settlements along Little Colorado River.
