Franklin Dewey Richards

2 April 1821 — 9 December 1899

Franklin Dewey Richards, father of George F. Richards, was born on 2 April 1821 in Richmond, Massachusetts, to Phinehas Richards and Wealthy Dewey. He was baptized on 3 June 1838 at Richmond and was ordained an apostle by Heber C. Kimball on 12 February 1849 in Salt Lake City, unincorporated territory. Richards, who served at times in the Utah territorial legislature between 1852 and 1875, also presided over the British mission in 1851–1852, 1854–1856, and 1867–1868. He served as church historian from 1889 to 1899 and as president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles from 1898 to 1899. Richards died in Ogden, Utah, on 9 December 1899.[1]
