Mary Alice Cannon
Born 9 Dec. 1828 at Liverpool, Lancashire, England.[1] Daughter of George Cannon and Ann Quayle.[2] Baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Parley P. Pratt, June 1840, at Liverpool.[3] Immigrated with her family aboard the Sidney, arriving at New Orleans 11 Nov. 1842 and Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, spring 1843.[4] Married Charles Lambert, 28 Nov. 1844, at Nauvoo; fourteen children.[5] Raised her three orphaned siblings.[6] Remained in Nauvoo when the main body of the Latter-day Saints left and witnessed the Battle of Nauvoo, 1846.[7] Was run over by her wagon while traveling to Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), 1846.[8] Migrated to the Salt Lake Valley with the Allen Taylor pioneer company, arriving Sept. 1849.[9] Served fifteen years as secretary in the Salt Lake City Seventh Ward Relief Society followed by twenty-two years as president, beginning 1868.[10] Accompanied her husband on a mission to England, 1882–1883.[11] Became acquainted with EBW while attending meetings and social activities, by 1892.[12] Appointed as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake temple, 1893.[13] Served as recording secretary of the Women’s Press Club, 1897.[14] Appointed as a missionary to assist the Relief Society general board members in visiting stakes, ca. 1897–1912.[15] Died 7 Sept. 1920 in Salt Lake City.[16]
