Lelia Tuckett

26 March 1855 — 23 March 1937

Born 26 Mar. 1855 in Salt Lake City.[1] Daughter of Henry Tuckett and Mercy Ellen Westwood.[2] Baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Abraham Hoagland, 3 June 1863.[3] Attended Morgan’s Commercial College, in Salt Lake City.[4] Served as a counselor and secretary in the Salt Lake City Eleventh Ward Retrenchment Association, 1871–1878; edited the Eleventh Ward’s Star, a manuscript journal, 1870.[5] Married James Perry Freeze Jr., 14 June 1875, in Salt Lake City; four children.[6] Founding member of the general board of the Primary Association; general secretary to President Louie B. Felt, 1880; first counselor, 1888.[7] Served as an aid-at-large for the Young Ladies’ Mutual Improvement Association (YLMIA) general board while serving in the Primary, 1890–1904.[8] Wrote articles for the Deseret News, Woman’s Exponent, Improvement Era, Young Woman’s Journal, and Children’s Friend while on the general board of the YLMIA.[9] Released from the YLMIA, Sept. 1904.[10] Cowrote a hymn, titled “Hymn of Praise,” with her brother, H. A. Tuckett, which was included in the Deseret Sunday School Songs, 1909.[11] Living in Los Angeles, 1919; resided in the Ocean Park Ward in the Los Angeles Stake, by 31 Oct. 1920.[12] Served as counselor and president of the Ocean Park Relief Society.[13] Served as a member of the California Relief Society mission board, 1920–1924.[14] Died 23 Mar. 1937 in Salt Lake City.[15]
