Josephine Young Beatie

2 September 1874–17 November 1942

Born 2 Sept. 1874 in Salt Lake City.[1] Daughter of Walter Josiah Beatie and Phoebe Young.[2] Baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7 Sept. 1882.[3] Married Charles Samuel Burton, 1 June 1893, in Salt Lake City; three children.[4] With EBW and fourteen others, attended woman’s suffrage meetings in Washington, DC, and New York City, Feb. and Mar. 1902.[5] General chair of the Salt Lake City Eighteenth Ward Character Ball, 18 Dec. 1902.[6] Attended social events with EBW.[7] Member of the genealogical committee for the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, by 1907.[8] Hostess at a reception for the Relief Society general board, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and First Presidency, 4 Oct. 1916.[9] As a granddaughter of Brigham Young, served on the committee for a memorial evening service in the Salt Lake Temple to honor his one hundredth birthday, 1 June 1921.[10] Died 17 Nov. 1942 in Los Angeles; buried in Salt Lake City.
