Ida Ione Cook
Born 21 Apr. 1851 in Lafayette, Onondaga Co., New York.[1] Daughter of William J. Cook and Sophia King.[2] Attended the New York State Normal and Training School at Oswego, Oswego Co., New York, 1 Oct. 1869–30 Sept. 1870.[3] Moved to Salt Lake City, by Oct. 1870.[4] Opened an academy with her sister, Mary E. Cook, in Salt Lake City, fall 1870.[5] Baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Heber J. Richards, 29 Mar. 1871, in Salt Lake City.[6] Worked as an instructor in the academic department of the University of Deseret, spring 1871, in Salt Lake City.[7] Visited with EBW on several occasions, 1874–1881.[8] Sent to Logan, Cache Co., Utah Territory, by Brigham Young to take charge of the Logan Seminary with the intention of establishing a college, 1875.[9] Taught at Logan Seminary, Aug. 1876–1877.[10] Appointed as a member of the board of trustees of Brigham Young College, serving as secretary, 7 Aug. 1877.[11] First principal of Brigham Young College, 1878–1884.[12] Served as first counselor in the presidency of the Cache Stake Young Ladies’ Mutual Improvement Association, 1881–1884.[13] Taught at Brigham Young College, 1884–1889.[14] Selected as part of a committee to draft and present a memorial to the president and U.S. Congress “calling attention to the injuries and wrongs inflicted upon the people of Utah,” 1886.[15] Appointed as principal or general coordinator of schools in Logan, 1892–1893.[16] Elected as superintendent of city schools in Logan, 1893–1894.[17] Reportedly moved to Denver, by 1896.[18] Died 29 Feb. 1924 in Los Angeles.[19]
