George Goddard

5 December 1815–12 January 1899

Born 5 Dec. 1815 in Leicester, Leicestershire, England.[1] Son of Cornelius Goddard and Mary Groce.[2] Married Elizabeth Harrison, 10 Sept. 1839; participated in plural marriage.[3] Baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jan. 1851.[4] Served as clerk to the presiding bishop, 1856–1883; clerk to general conference, 1874–1884; clerk of the School of the Prophets, 1883–1884; and clerk and treasurer to the Salt Lake Stake Assembly Hall, 1877–1880.[5] Served in the Canadian mission, 1857–1858.[6] Served as Sunday School superintendent in the Salt Lake City Thirteenth Ward, 1867–1876; served as first assistant general superintendent of the Sunday School, 1872–1898.[7] Associated with EBW in the “Old Folks” program of the Church and in various other religious, music, and social assignments, 1875–1898.[8] Served in the British mission, 1884.[9] Died 12 Jan. 1899 in Salt Lake City.[10]
