Frederick William D'Evelyn

June 1855–29 August 1932

Born June 1855 in Belfast, Co. Antrim, Ireland.[1] Wounded in the First Boer War, 1880–1881.[2] Graduated from Edinburgh Medical School, 1886, in Edinburgh.[3] Married first Susan Taylor, 25 Mar. 1887, in Belfast.[4] Immigrated to San Francisco; practiced medicine in San Francisco, 1887.[5] Lectured frequently on South Africa history and wars, 1887–1932.[6] Member of the college dispensary staff at the University of California, Berkeley, 1892.[7] EBW visited his home while in San Francisco to attend the National Editorial Convention, 1892.[8] Wife died, 17 July 1892.[9] Married second Mary (Winnie) F. Gaynor, 23 Aug. 1893.[10] Toured internationally to promote a cure for alcoholism, 1898.[11] President of the Geographical Society of California, 1900–1903.[12] Member of the Bahá’í faith, 1901–1932.[13] President of the California Academy of Sciences, 1903–1907.[14] Member of the Alameda Co., California, board of health, 1907–1908.[15] President of the Alameda Co. chamber of commerce, 1909–1910.[16] President of the Audubon Society of the Pacific, 1928.[17] Died 29 Aug. 1932 in San Francisco.[18]
