Alfales Young

3 October 1853 — 30 March 1920

Born 3 Oct. 1853 in Salt Lake City.[1] Son of Brigham Young and Eliza Burgess.[2] Baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6 Aug. 1866, in Salt Lake City.[3] Attended the University of Deseret for three years, ca. 1870.[4] Graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, 27 Mar. 1877.[5] Admitted to the Utah bar, 7 June 1877.[6] Member of the Utah Stake high council, 14 Oct. 1877–2 June 1878.[7] Participated in the Wasatch Literary Association, 1878.[8] Worked as a lawyer in the firm of Williams and Young, 1879–1885.[9] Married Ada Lydia Cottle, 16 Apr. 1884.[10] Editor of the Salt Lake Democrat, 30 Mar. 1885–6 Feb. 1886.[11] Member of the Utah Fish and Game Protective Association, 1885.[12] Member of the Young Democratic Club, 1885.[13] Worked as telegraph editor for the Salt Lake Herald newspaper, 1889–1892.[14] Active in Democratic Party politics, 1892.[15] Warden of the Utah Territory Penitentiary, June–Nov. 1893.[16] Charter member and incorporator of the State Historical Society of Utah, 1897.[17] Telegraph editor for the Deseret News, 1901–1920.[18] Served as president of the library board, 2 Feb.–10 Oct. 1904.[19] Died 30 Mar. 1920 in Salt Lake City.[20]
